Hello My Name is Chopped Liver.

ChoppedLiver

Please excuse my arrogance, but what exactly is chopped liver? Why do we use it so much as an expression? To me it’s just weird.

Anyways, so remember when I said I would be real with you all. Well in this blog I am going to tell you one of the many embarrassing stories of my childhood.

Okay here goes…

When I was seven years old and in the first grade, I was a very selfish, prideful little girl. The school had a program called “Caring Kids”. Whenever a child was seen doing a respectful or responsible act he or she was rewarded with a pin that said “I’m a caring kid!”

One day I noticed a lot of kids in my class wearing these pins. I started to get jealous and then I got upset.

I was so desperate to get a pin that I began to search for ways to be “caring”. During our class time I noticed a girl drop her pencil on the floor! I hopped up out of my chair and ran across the room. I picked up her pencil and laid it on her desk. The girl looked at me and I went directly to my teacher.

” I picked up a pencil for someone and then gave it back!” I stood with a big smile on my face ready to receive my pin.

This was the moment I had waited for. I could see it now, my teacher would put the pin on my shirt with a huge smile, while my classmates applauded!

I looked up at my teacher and she said , “that’s very nice, now please return to your seat.”

I looked at her with a confused look on my face. ” May I please have my pin now,”

My teacher shook her head. “I understand you did a kind deed for that girl, but we give pins to those who do kind things when no one is watching.”

I walked back to my seat very upset. My little seven year old self didn’t understand why I couldn’t be rewarded and noticed for my good deeds.

I literally felt like Chopped Liver. Whatever that meant.

Have you ever done something nice for someone and all they did was smile at you? Or have you done something so amazingly awesome but no one was there to witness it!?!

Did you feel like chopped liver….Left out, pushed aside or even unimportant?

Whenever you feel like your kind deeds or hard work goes unnoticed let me tell you that there is always someone who knows. Someone who appreciates what you have done.

Do you remember Jesus, the guy I talk about in all my other blogs…

Yeah he’s the one who makes sure you never go unseen or unloved. Jesus is always there with you.

Sometimes our good works and kind deeds go unnoticed because its a part of God’s plan. It’s a way for God to tell us that we need to be humbled and take a step back for God to get the glory.

Wait what???

Did I just encourage you to not take credit for your work?

When I was seven I thought that in order to get that Caring Kid pin I had to show how caring I was to everyone around me. The truth was I just needed to be humble.

I ended up getting a pin a few weeks later for something I didn’t even know I did.

God wants us to be humbled when we work and when we do kind things for others. He does not want us to put on a show. He wants everything we do to be done for his glory.

What that means is we take our eyes and thoughts off ourselves and start thinking about how can serve God. We have to think, are we about to do something with our mindset on ourselves or are we about to do this for the glory of God.

Sometimes that means even lowering yourself to the lowest level of chopped liver. It may stink and you may go unnoticed for a long time. But just remember this…Jesus sees and knows you.

When we start doing things for the glory of God, people will know us by our love. They will see that Jesus lives in us.

Do everything for Jesus so that people will see Jesus in you.

“So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.”

1 Corinthians 10:31
