To the Girl Who Was Just Friend-Zoned…

IMG_0257

Somehow he found out. Somehow the truth about how you felt about him came back around to his ears. You tried so hard to keep it inside you.

He might have heard it from a friend or overheard you talking about him to a friend, but somehow he heard and he talked to you about it.

It all happened like a movie. But not a love story, a tragedy…

It happened all at once and you never saw it coming.

He met up with you, wanting to chat. You were ecstatic. You thought this was the moment you were waiting for.

He wanted to talk with you about something and you thought this was the part where he finally wanted to be more than friends.

You see him walk towards you with a smile on his face, and you smile back.

Then it happens. He tells you the opposite of what you wanted. Sitting there beside him, you hear the words that you were afraid to hear. You knew it was a possibility, but never in a million years did you expect to hear them from him.

“I just see you as a friend and that’s pretty much it.”

Your whole world stops. Your heart stops. Your head starts to spin. You’re not sure what to do next.

You get up and leave, driving home to your house as tears flood your eyes and your heart begins to break.

To the Girl Who Just Got Friend-Zoned please know…

I’ve been there.

I know the feeling.

That horrible, gut-wrenching, heart-sinking feeling.

That things won’t actually happen the way you’ve been dreaming they would.

The way you hoped they would.

So you stand there with your heart torn from your chest and now trampled all over the floor…

You stand there wondering how it’s all gotten to this.

Wondering how this happened…

Wondering if there’s something’s wrong with you.

You thought he cared.

All that time he spent with you, talking with you…

All that time you spent pouring your heart out to him.

And now you stand there in silence looking at your self in the mirror. You stand there in silence looking at your tear-stained face wondering…

Wondering why you weren’t enough for him.

Wondering why she was.

Wondering what happens next…

What happens next is you realize that there is nothing wrong with you. You are so much more than enough.

What happens next is you wash your face.

What happens next is you open up the blinds and let the sunshine in even when it is raining outside.

What happens next is you turn on the music and blast the speakers so loud that even the glass rattles.

What happens next is you dance and let your hair down. You dance even if people can see you in your apartment window. You dance your heart out. You shake off all the hurt, all the feels, all the broken memories. Dance until you are yourself again.

Then you smile through the tears, the pain, and even through the heartache.

And then you praise God for making you stronger in this moment. God has taken the time to open your eyes.

He has taken time to show you that this guy wasn’t worth it. God wanted you to see that there is someone else out there for you. Someone better that he made just for you…waiting for you.

God also wanted you to see that you are beautiful and that he made you.

Girl, there is nothing wrong with you.

God crafted every part of you. He made your eyes the radiant color that they are. He made your hair to blow around your face in the wind. He made your smile vibrant and full of life so that you could be a light to others. He made you-you. There is no one else like you.

You are unique. One of a kind.

Girl, You are gorgeous.

Girl, You are awesome.

And God knows that.

He has someone out there for you. Praying for you right now.

The guy that walked away from you today isn’t it. Today isn’t the end, but just the beginning.

Your love story didn’t end when he said he wanted to be friends.

Your love story isn’t over. It has just started.

God is writing your love story right now. He is preparing you for your future husband as I type this. Your future husband is praying for you right now as you read this.

Pray for him. Ask God to prepare your heart for what he has next.

You may not meet your future husband tomorrow or in the next few years, you may have to wait. God is good at teaching us patience.

So trust in the Lord, girl, trust that the Lord has a plan for you, and hope that the future is bright.

Girl, I have been there. I know that the waiting is hard, but in the waiting rejoice and praise God.

Praise him. Praise him and wait on him.

Wait and be hopeful.

God hasn’t forgotten about you.

He’s writing your love story.

And remember that it’s not over…

Your love story has just begun.
